This piece is very distinctive and is one of the few objects I’ve made that is deliberately designed around a theme.
I wanted to make a simple, but attractive form constructed entirely from elements taken from the earth. Clay and glass
are composed of almost pure silica - one of the world’s most abundant elements. The legs are made from earthenware building
blocks filled with chunks of lead-crystal glass. I regard this table as a statement of how our world is built upon the natural
elements that have been utilised by man since time began.
